Applications are open throughout the year
We believe that empowering, engaging, and educating the next generation of scientists is imperative to building a healthy and sustainable community. This means that the next generation of scientists must be provided with the necessary skills. Skills are required for employment opportunities, but also for sustaining interest in science, designing experiments and conducting research. In Bangladesh, while students are provided with the theoretical knowledge on important scientific techniques, not all universities have the capacity to provide hands-on training. With our third stream, we want to close that gap.
This stream is targeted towards undergraduate and postgraduate students of life sciences, who wish to receive training in hands-on laboratory and data analysis skills. We are leveraging our expertise in clinical research, diagnostics and genomics to build intellectual capacity within Bangladesh and create a model for capacity building and decentralization of research worldwide. We are partnering with both public and private universities to not only provide intensive training, but also build infrastructure for genomic research in Bangladesh. Our training programs range from 2-3 weeks in duration, where interested participants can choose to specialize in genomics, microbiology, or biochemistry. All participants are provided with a certificate upon successful completion.
This is a 2-week OR 3-week program, where trainees will learn methods for pathogen identification, molecular diagnostics, genomics, phage detection, infectious disease surveillance & much more.
This 3-week training covers hands-on pathogen identification, genomics, and testing techniques at a pediatric hospital, culminating in a presentation on the implications of pathogen genomics for public health using the Illumina platform.
This 4-day training provides the opportunity to train at a major pediatric hospital. It provides hands-on training on a range of techniques from DNA/RNA extraction to qPCR analysis while teaching about laboratory safety at the CHRF headquarters.
This 5-days training encompasses pediatric hospital visits, and hands-on laboratory practices from aseptic sample collection to antibiotic testing, and emphasizes safety, report preparation, and biobanking.
This training encompasses in-patient & out-patient visits to a pediatric hospital, aseptic sample collection, hands-on ELISA for diagnostic tests, use of automated analysers for routine tests (e.g., blood glucose, creatinine, etc.), and validation, QC & calibration of diagnostic machines.
If you are interested in doing your undergraduate or graduate thesis at CHRF, please tell us more about yourself, your academic supervisor, and your research proposal by filling up this form.
This workshop is a comprehensive 5-day program designed to equip participants with essential skills for conducting epidemiological studies in the context of respiratory diseases within Bangladesh
This workshop is a part of the “Democratizing Public Health Modeling Using AI-based Tools” grant made to CHRF by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Selected candidates will receive scholarships to cover the course fee.
This exclusive practice-oriented workshop is intended for undergraduates, graduates, and young professionals with a science, medicine, or public health background, or interest in science communication and/or science journalism.
The "Python Essentials in Life Sciences" course is part of the 'Data Science for Women' series by the women-led data science team of CHRF.
This 5-day workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of bacterial genomics and its applications in antimicrobial resistance research.
The workshop will commence on 30th June and run till 4th July 2024. The application deadline is 22nd June 2024.
After submitting your training program application, expect a response within a week. We'll contact you for an interview (for university students or working professionals) or an introductory session (for high school students), based on your preferences.
We are unable to provide accommodation or transport facilities for our trainees.
As per our organisational policies, we are unable to consider issuance of reference letters for individuals who have spent less than four weeks at CHRF and are seeking recommendations for postgraduate studies and less than two weeks for undergraduate studies. This policy is in place to ensure that all recommendations we provide are thorough and based on a sufficient period of assessment.
Upon successfully completing all training sessions, submitting required assessments, and, as applicable, delivering a final presentation during the graduation ceremony, trainees will receive a certificate of accomplishment.
At present, all our training sessions are exclusively conducted offline, featuring immersive hands-on activities in laboratories and supplemented by a few theory lectures. This approach is designed to ensure a seamless and effective learning experience.
Due to security reasons, trainees cannot enter the research labs prior to receiving an ID card, which will only be issued after enrollment.
Certainly, we offer scholarships to Stream 3 applicants seeking Next Generation Pathogen Sequencing training. It's essential to clarify that these scholarships are solely need-based, not merit-based. Applications for need-based scholarships are meticulously assessed by a dedicated scholarship committee.
Absolutely! Our training courses are designed to be hands-on, complemented by insightful theory lectures to develop the skills of our trainees and introduce them to laboratory and analytical techniques.
The interview is a virtual one-on-one session on Microsoft Teams or Zoom conducted by the trainers. The objective is to comprehend the applicant’s suitability for the program, the enthusiasm of the applicant toward science, and how the training will help them achieve their future career goals.
Training sessions for Stream 3 are held at Child Health Research Foundation Headquarters (CHRF-HQ), Bangladesh Shishu Hospital Institute (BSHI) and M R Khan Shishu Hospital and Institute of Child Health.
Through Stream 3, CHRF is dedicated to building the next generation of scientists in Bangladesh. With all the different programs we offer, we are building the capacity to provide hands-on training and fill the gap in skill development. In this blog, we share some memorable experiences of our brilliant trainees.
Read on to find out what our 19 brilliant attendees learned during the 5 days they spent with us!
From aspiring science communicators to communication professionals, we loved having such a diverse cohort as our first batch in May 2023.
